Good Venues and bad Venues

So My Cube skills had the Catering staff in DC floored. Its weird how people react to the ability to do something i find so simple.

anywho,

As Far as Picking Venues for events goes this is my rule of thumb. Do a Tech Scout. This doesn't mean call up ask for floor plans and ask if it looks nice then base your decision off of some photos you saw on their website. This is the wrong way to do it. So, lets talk about problems at each venue so far.

Boston - Cyclorama [First Venue of the show]

While it looked nice and had lots of space the acoustics were terrible. The Place was a Giant Brick Dome. if you whispered on one end of the room another person on the opposite side could hear you loud and clear. So When you put speakers and have a presenter do his thing well. You sound like you are in a cave and all you get is echo. That is unless you find a way to make a roof and walls.

NYC - Classic Car Club [second venue of the show]

Ok, love cars just love them, but this place was a pain. we had to tear down half the show every night so they would have room to move the cars in to the parking garage. Basically we were having the show in a really nice Garage.

DC - Mellon Auditorium [i hope you get the order by now]

Mainly old school and beautiful. The problem was Security was crazy. The fact hat guest had to go through a metal detector was silly. Scanning the truck by homeland security was an inconvenience. And needing to lay carpets down EVERYWHERE just to move something was a hastle.

So far this has been the nicest venues ive had to deal with as far as tech. no complaints here

Dear People with normal Jobs,

ok, i get asked all the time.

"How do i get a job where i get to travel like you?"

Well, all i can tell you is that its accidental. I didn't go out looking to be in this business it just kinda happened. It does kinda depend on your general career path and im pretty sure if you work in some office job doing paper work its going to be less likely that your career will take you places.

Busy day in the Life Of a Cuber

So i haven't been updating this as much as i should. It is my intention that in the near future i make weekly updates. Simply to tell my silly stories of being a speed cuber in NYC.

Now, to explain the picture in the corner of the screen. I have been really busy with work and am currently traveling the country with The Macallan Scotch Brand. I am going to set up a separate Docu-Blog of my travels and cubing around the country. Also, I have been made an honorary member of FLIPMODE squad

Haven't updated in a bit. So to start off i present you with a video

Ok, so this was what happened to me the other day and i don't really know what to say about it other than "HA". Now get this. I was on the A Train on my way to the gym with my roommate. There i was minding my own business listening to my mp3 player and solving my Rubik's cube as i normally do. Directly across from me is this guy leaning over his bike in a way only drunks and emo-ducks would. When like a few stops later i notice that the guy is making hand gestures at me. I had my head phones so i don't know how long he really was flailing at me, but what ever thats not whats important. I take my head phones off and ask him what he wants. "Dude could you stop shaking your toy around like that?" he says to me in a demanding tone. I was kind of confused cause well i wasn't standing there shaking it around in front of him i was on the opposite side of the train minding my own business. So here is the rest of the dialog where we shall refer to the the guy with the bike as THE RUBIK NAZI.

ME: ummm... you mean stop solving it? Why?

RUBIK NAZI: LISTEN DUDE! I dont have explain my self to you! Just stop shaking that thing

ME: Is the sound bugging you?

RUBIK NAZI: DO YOU NOT GET ENOUGH ATTENTION? Listen MAN I dont NEED TO JUSTIFY IT TO YOU JUST STOP!

ME: ok what ever dude.

So i go back to where i was this time i sit next down next to my roommate and go right back to solving my cube. I mean the guy didn't say please so yeah i don't reward rude people for being crass and assuming they are more important than everyone else. It is kind of funny how he was up set that i was solving the cube yet he was taking up 4 seats with his bike.

People are strange. I get a lot of strange reactions from people on the train most of the time it makes people happy to see. Thats why i do it. Its nice to bring some joy into some ones day.
I have never made some one angry just from solving the Cube. Thats a first on me. Though now that i think about it he was a cyclist and man some of those guys are just dicks.

The Positions are All Relative

To start off I would like to say that for the first time some one saw me solve the cube, and what followed was not the line "oh thats like Will Smith on Pursuit of Happiness." Usually, this kind of annoys me cause its kind of uninformed. So as a history lesson here it goes.

so yeah thats the story. Also, the reason i wanted to learn how to solve the cube as well.

but I'm still faster than Will Smith.

Though its all relative if it weren't for me seeing that episode of Fresh Prince, I wouldn't have done some of the things i have gotten to do, or met the people i have met.

Are you a Speed Cuber? So people always ask me how fast can I do it?

;-P I assure you I take my time and do it right. Oh, the Rubik's cube, you mean? Yeah, I average 70 seconds, with 45 seconds being my quickest to date, from a random configuration arranged by a passer by. Normally I will manage to solve my cube either once or twice between the average local stop on any NyC subway.

Ever have that feeling that people are watching your every move and writing things down? My friend said this to me the other day:

I saw some guy on the subway showing 3 cute Italian girls how to solve a Rubik's Cube, and proving his dexterity by actually solving his cube very quickly, over and over.The weird thing was, The Guy Wasn't You.

(You have thus spawned imitators, my friend.)

Now, I am aware that I'm not the first to bring a Rubik's cube on a subway train, but personally have never seen anyone else on the train with one. Which on that note brings me to example A.

So this brings me to this conclusion; people are pilfering my shtick.

Example of how My speed-cubing on the train has led to some one using my talent for personal gain.

As I sat in the hard beige and orange seat of the subway car I began my normal routine. This is a normal day on the A train for me, I enter the train, pick a roomy and highly visible corner to plant my self in, and i bust out my cube. Showboating, it's what I do. Most people that spend their time around or in my circle would know this to be true. I digress, The cube comes out of the red hoodie that helps to draw additional attention my direction and with a few quick flicks of the fingers the cube is scrambled. Once, twice, three times the cube is solved just as fast as it was mixed up. A girl across the train starts to take notice. She smiles as I wink and continue with my spiffy little talent. The train screeches as it stops at 125th street and opens its door to let in a bottom feeder that quickly takes notice of the pretty girl on the bench seating to his left.
He takes a seat and watches her for a moment. Looks at her, then looks t her gaze, than sees me. He realizes that she is interested in my cube solving and immediately capitalizes on this moment. "Hey gurl, you see that shit? How cool is that solvinz the cube and shit." This continued till 42nd Port Authority. I noticed that he almost lost her a few times. It would seem he was not as interesting as he had thought he was quickly turning back to the topic of my cube.

Hello there how do you do? Welcome to the start of something i hope will prove to be interesting and amusing to at least some. I am the that guy you have probably seen in the magnificent city known as New York. New York is where i reside, and my what a wonderful place it is. See what i did there. If you have ever been on the train when there was some guy furiously flicking at the glistening plastic layers of his well worn Rubik's cube. Odds are you know me. Not that you like really know me but you know of me.

Now, i would like to start off that I am aware that I'm not the first to bring a cube into the train, but honestly. I have never seen anyone else.

My goal is to find enough Cubers to fill a subway car. More on that later
